Super 8 Camera and film

Super 8 mm film (often simply called Super 8) is a motion picture film format released in 1965 by Eastman Kodak as an improvement of the older "Double" or "Regular" 8 mm home movie format.

The film is nominally 8 mm wide, exactly the same as the older standard 8 mm film, and also has perforations on only one side. However, the dimensions of the perforations are smaller than those on older 8 mm film, which allowed the exposed area to be made larger. The Super 8 standard also specifically allocates the rebate opposite the perforations for an oxide stripe upon which sound can be magnetically recorded.

There are several different varieties of the film system used for shooting, but the final film in each case has the same dimensions. By far the most popular system was the Kodak system.[1]

In the teaser trailer for Super 8, we see that the film is set 1979 during the Super 8 era. During the last 3 seconds of the teaser, a cracked camera lens can be seen. It is believed that the lens is that of a Super 8 camera.

In the teaser, a pickup truck can be seen crashing through the train crossing guard and then speeds head on with a locomotive, causing a fiery crash. The pickup appears to be a 1964-66 Chevy Fleetside 'small window' pickup truck.

AN/TTQ Filter Station

Operation Station AN/TTQ-1 is a transportable filter and operations room which may be installed as a fix or mobile control point in an air warning system. It is used at Army or higher headquaters.

Provides facilities for receiving and plotting data on operations boards, recording direction finding data on intercept boards, and resolving and relaying such data over communication lines.[2]

AN/TTQ-1 filter stations were used during WWII to record and plot air traffic. Military and civilians alike would place calls to Army filter stations when they spotted aircraft and the filter station operators would use plotting material to record and resolve the data, which would then be sent via communication lines such as radio to Army operation headquarters.

In the teaser trailer, a crate bearing the letters AN/TTQ-1 can be seen in the wrecakge after the train derailment.

In computing, the term remote desktop refers to a software or an OS feature allowing applications, often including graphical applications, to be run remotely on a server, while being displayed locally. PDP-11 Simulator

The PDP-11 was a series of 16-bit minicomputers sold by Digital Equipment Corp. from 1970 into the 1990s.[4].A pdp simulator is software run on modern computers that allows for the emulation of a PDP-11 minicomputer, allowing the user access to files and prgrams designed specifically to be accessed only by PDP-11 minicomputers.

TU56 Dual DECtape Drive

The TU56 DECtape Drive is a dual transport reel to reel tape drive. The DECtape drive served the purpose of a floppy disk drive on modern machines. Even though it was tape it was formatted into fixed size block and could randomly read and write them like the sectors on a floppy. This allowed the tape to have a normal file system on it. The main difference between the DECtape and a floppy is that the DECtape had a much longer seek time since the tape has to be sequentially read. The drive takes about 30 seconds to get from one end of the tape to the other. This drive is compatible with the earlier 555 and TU55 DECtape drives.[5]
